This Blog will explain the applications of different types of Valves, and will also show how to maintain them.
Ball Valves:
Description - A ball valve consists of a valve body in which a large sphere with a central hole equal to the inside diameter of the pipe is mounted. As the ball is rotated, in the fully open position the valve provides the through conduit or full bore required for unrestricted flow of the fluid and scrapers or pigs.
Applications - The most common type of fluid shutdown valve used in onshore and offshore upstream oil and gas production facilities is the ball valve. Additionally, they are utilised in furnace fuel gas feeding systems.
Maintenance - Have your valves checked by a skilled inspector on a routine basis. For most applications, once a year is ideal, but ball valves in high-pressure and high-cycle applications should receive more frequent inspections. Inspections should address the following:
- Tightness of nuts, bolts and other hardware
- The presence of mineral buildup or corrosion
- Leak hazards
- Proper opening and closure of valves
- Position indicator accuracy (even on static valves)
- Proper exhaustion and air filtration in the area
At DChel Valves, we specialise in the production of high quality Ball Valves, making us one of the best Ball Valve Manufacturers In India.
Butterfly Valves:
Description - A pivoting disc mounted on a valve stem that can revolve inside the valve body distinguishes butterfly valves from other quarter-turn valve types. The flow of fluid via the valve can be controlled by adjusting the disk's location. From the open to the closed position, the valve stem can be spun a complete 90o, which can be done either manually with a handle or automatically with a quarter-turn valve actuator.
Applications - Butterfly valves can be used across a wide range of applications. They perform well in large volume water applications and slurry applications. The following are some typical applications of Butterfly valves:
- Cooling water, air, gases, fire protection etc.
- Slurry and similar services
- Vacuum service
- High-pressure and high-temperature water and steam services
- Compressed Air or Gas Applications
Maintenance -
- Cycle the valve once a month or more if it is not used regularly.
- Relieve the system pressure before maintaining the valve.
- To remove from pipework reverse the installation sequence.
- Replace valve seat (liner) by removing the stem and disc. Press out the liner and replace it with a new part. Reinstall the disc and stem along with seals and clips. Refit into line as in installation sequence.
- If the valve is operating in a dry application (eg compressed air) ensure to lubricate the disc and seat regularly to prolong life span
We at DChel Valves also specialise in the production of Butterfly Valves, which is why we are the biggest Butterfly Valve Manufacturer In India.
Strainer Valves:
Description - Any device used to strain a liquid; any sieve or filter used to stop solid bodies from mixing in a liquid stream or flow line; and any pipe fitting through which liquid is passed for purification, filtering, or separation from solid materials are all examples of strainer valves.
Applications - Strainers are used in almost all processes, as they ensure the smooth operation of fluid transfer systems. The main fields of application are as follows.
- Central heating
- Petrochemical plants
- Food facilities
- Paper factories
- Tobacco factories
- Iron and steel factories
- Chemical industry
- Energy production
Maintenance - If properly installed, y strainers require very little monitoring. However, it is important to keep track of the pressure to make sure that the equipment does not get too full. This would cause the screen to break and it would need to be replaced. If the screen fails, it could damage the entire system which would quickly become a very costly problem. The filter can be easily accessed which makes for a simple cleaning process overall. Remember to close off the valve connections on either side of the y strainer before starting to clean and relieve pressure. From there, empty out the unwanted material and debris. Finally, clean the mesh filter and replace.
We are also the fastest growing Strainer Valve Manufacturer In India.
Needle Valves:
Description - A needle valve is a type of valve that can be used to control the flow of a substance through an appliance or system, typically either water or gas. The presence of a tiny plunger that resembles a needle is the value's distinctive feature.
Applications -
- Usually, needle valves are used in flow metering applications, particularly if a steady, calibrated, low flow rate has to be maintained for some moment
- Commonly used to provide shut off for the pressure gauge or on applicators to shut off the supply of NH3 to the knives in Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) applications.
Maintenance - The following guidelines are best practices when conducting maintenance on a needle valve:
- Always depressurize the valve before disassembling it.
- If flammable or hazardous media flows through the valve, run inert gas (e.g., nitrogen) through the system before disassembly.
- Work on the valve should be done on a workbench, not the ground, to avoid dirt and dust getting into the valve.
